Having drops on a daily basis, logs inside

Yes, I have a direct support ticket opened. Its probably been a month now, and i have got no where, and only a couple responses. I’m sure people here can better direct me on what this problem could be. My internet just dies usually once a day, random times. When it dies its both my hard wired main PC as well as anything using wireless. I am using a all-in-1 Motorola Surfboard SBG6580 modem/router. Here are the logs:

post your signal levels from the modem (both US and DS) – you can usually find them by typing 192.168.100.1 into your browser (takes you to the internal diags in the modem).

if you’re serious that replacing this gateway could help my issue ill try it. I would gladly pay $100 or $200 to fix this.

There is an ongoing known firmware issue with that device to which a CC employee has acknowledged a future fix here;

if im stuck choosing one of these 2 modems, any preference or reputation? I hesitate to get another Motorola after this experience..

Zoom – DOCSIS 3.0 High-Speed Cable Modem
Model: 5341-02-03H

Motorola – SURFboard Cable Modem
Model: SB5101

Routers, I started with Linksys years ago and always liked them? But Cisco is a name I trust also.

NETGEAR – N300 Wireless-N Router with 4-port Ethernet Switch
Model: WNR2000-100NAS

Cisco Linksys – E1200 Wireless-N Router with 4-Port Ethernet Switch
Model: E1200

Cisco Linksys – E1550 Wireless-N Tablet Router with 4-Port Ethernet Switch and USB Port
Model: E1550

Belkin – N300 Wireless-N Router with 4-Port Switch
Model: F9K1002

Cradlepoint – 802.11b/g/n Wireless Router with 4-Port Ethernet Switch
Model: MBR95

Personally I’m not sure you need a new modem. You’re getting T3 timeouts which means the modem is not effectively communicating with the CMTS. This can be caused by a variety of things. Your signal levels and SNR values appear good, but there are 2 general types of noise that are common in a cable plant. The first type is the noise floor which is really just the consistent, ambient background noise – I don’t think this is a problem in your cause. There’s another peskier type of noise classified as impulse noise – this type doesn’t readily show up in static reading from a cable modem, etc – the cable company would need to look at the node from their headend (using a spectrum analyzer or other specific test instrument). The noise shows up as short bursts of intense noise and throws communications off with cable modems and such. The issue could also be distance related, but that’s unlikely if they have had service in your area for a while as they would have discovered it pretty quickly (and it takes a long distance to cause this). Lastly the cable company could be a victim of their own success if they have more modems trying to connect than their CMTS can keep up with in a given period of time, but I’d doubt this as well since most CMTS’s mad in the last 5-6 years can accommodate a very large number of simultaneous modems. So – long story short (or maybe not) – I’d suspect the impulse noise problem. You can buy another modem if you just want to – if you do make sure it’s a Docsis 3 capable modem (since you appear to have D3 service), and I don’t believe the Motorola 5101 that you mentioned is.

thanks, i did step up one notch to the Motorola SBG6121. Just a modem, without a built in router. I am about to try it out. I can always return it within 30 days if I don’t like it.

also got a Cisco E3200 router
